The holder, 10 inches in length, is carved out of a solid block of hardwood. Ancient piece of mirror is set into the cavity, held in place by brass-shanked tacks. Edge of outer rim also decorated with tacks. A strip of native-tanned leather at front acts as a retainer for the comb. Sides of holder decorated with a cut-in pattern of X’s within a square. A wrought iron ring is embedded at the upper rear, from which a leather tie is suspended. The fan-shaped tines of the comb are fabricated from strips of hardwood, worked down to a silky-smooth finish, tapering at the tips. The entire lower half of the comb is covered with a tan muslin cloth. A row of blue and white pony beads adorns the face of the comb.
