Cased Colt 1851 Navy Revolver S.N. 35379

A very fine, original British proofed revolver. Barrel retains 90%+ of the original shiny blue, remainder w/small areas of age-flaking finish. Barrel marked –ADDRESS, COL: COLT, LONDON– . Loading lever, frame and hammer w/100% of c.h. Cylinder a bright finish, w/all of the cylinder scene. T.g and b.s. w/thinning blue-grey finish. 100% of original varnish on walnut grips. Complete w/excellent original accessories, including a rare Ely’s tin cap box. Excellent mahogany case. Escutcheon on lid inscribed in script Major Dickins/Turkish Contingent . Accompanying this superb set is an original letter issued at the time of purchase in 1972 from Peter Dale Ltd, London, giving a history of Major Compton Alwyn Scarse Dickins (28th-The North Gloucestershire-Regt. of Foot). Major Dickins served in the Crimean War in 1854-1855, was severely wounded in the advance trenches and received several medals for his service–Medal and 3 clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor and the Turkish Medal. A very important Colt associated with the Crimean War.
