A Sharps Model 1874 Sporting Rifle in fine + condition. 30 inch octagonal barrel, caliber 40-90, 2-5/8 inch bottleneck cartridge. Double-set triggers, weight 11 lbs., 5 oz. Serial number 160865, all matching. Sharps factory letter indicates a double invoice, first invoiced to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham, January 5, 1878, then shipped by SH&G to John P. Lower, Denver, Colo., September 30, 1878. Almost 100% of original, deep blue on barrel. Sharp edges. Top flat of barrel marked OLD RELIABLE, SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN , then to the rear of leaf sight, the stamping J.P.LOWER, and marked near breech, CALIBRE 40. Lock, receiver and loading lever retain a silvery, case-hardened finish. Almost 100% of original varnish on forend and buttstock. Some minor handling dings on wood. Overall in 100% original, fine+ condition. Ex. Lutz collection, Allen S. Kelley and Warren Webster collection. A true Western-used Model 1874 Sharps Sporting Rifle.
